Disturbing Article

in the Washington Post about the ongoing problem at America's racetracks with regard to horses and drugs.

Many are worried that allowing the use of certain drugs masks those that are illegal.

In the old days of Secretariat, the tracks sponsoring the Triple Crown races (Churchill Downs, Pimlico, Belmont Park) did NOT allow drugs of any kind in the classics. Now all three do. I submit one of the reasons the horses are not of as high a caliber as back in the 1960s and 1970s in the classics is because of use of drugs. Only the soundest, least fragile horses competed. Now "inferior" horses are being allowed in.

Drugs shouldn't be allowed, period. Not at Belmont Park, not at Santa Anita, not in the classics, not in the stakes races, not in the claiming races, not in the allowance races.
