The First Gelding
since Man O' War's son Clyde Van Dusen won in 1929, Funny Cide, has won the 129th Kentucky Derby.
He was 19-1. Empire Maker and Peace Rules, the Bobby Frankel duel, just couldn't get past the gutsy gelding. The two finished second and third, respectively.
He was also the first New York bred to win the Kentucky Derby.
This year also marks my 43rd viewing of the Run for the Roses. I first watched the race when Carry Back won in 1961.
