This Might Be
the most offensive paragraph Howard Kurtz has written yet:
"While George W. gets to address the nation from the majesty of an aircraft carrier--the cable networks covered the landing live in what turned into a six-hour campaign commercial--the Columbia 9 will be jockeying for position tomorrow night with George Stephanopoulos, no cable coverage allowed [though I bet C-SPAN will carry it on delay]."
I don't know about you, the reader, but comparing the nine candidates for the Democratic party nomination to those who perished in the Columbia space shuttle disaster is the most offensive thing I have ever read in my life. Kurtz was trying to be cute because the candidates are debating in COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, but the underlying message was clear to this reader.
And Bush, a deserter from the Air National Guard, with his "majestic" appearance on an aircraft and his "majestic landing," reminded one of Reni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will, with Hitler's plane descending down from the clouds, god-like.
At least Howard Fineman didn't have a ton of bias in his column from Wednesday while writing about the debates. That's more than I can say for this Howard. Kurtz should get MWO's Whore of the Week award.
Kurtz Kount: Kurtz 24, C&P 38.
