Another Reason

NCLB is a piece of shit. Teachers, many of whom have taught many years in the public schools, risk losing their jobs unless they get themselves certified in a particular subject matter or else take a goddamned test (costing a couple of hundred dollars a pop, of course).

This becomes utterly ludicrous in small districts and schools, where teachers might teach in more than one subject area and are perfectly proficient.

This "quality check" stuff is utter garbage. I could see it if the taxpayers were willing to pay teachers 100k a year, but they aren't. All they are doing is creating more stress for teachers.

But isn't that the point, after all? Create more and more turnover in teaching, undermine the unions, and open the floodgates to privatization. Private schools, of course, are under no such mandate.
