While Sabato has some good points about the consequences of the recall and initiative processes, I think he's way off the mark to blame the Progressives of a century ago for today's messes.

There never was a big problem with any of this until the far right "populists" perverted both processes for their own rotten ends, and now they are taking their cues from Washington.
