Because

of server trouble, I couldn't post this USA Today article of two days ago about the struggles of three unemployed people trying to find work in this sinking economy.

And they aren't alone:

It's a tough time to be out of work. Today, it takes longer to find a job than in years past, and more job seekers are becoming so discouraged they're simply giving up. The length of time people are spending looking for a job, while less than it was a year ago, is historically higher: The median number of weeks the unemployed were out of work was 9.4 in January, up from 5.8 weeks in December 1999.

About 21% of job seekers have been looking for work for 27 weeks or longer. And in January, 515,000 people stopped looking for work because they were so discouraged over prospects. That's up from the 267,000 who had become too discouraged to look for work in December 1999.

I know how that feels. It has been much harder for me as a professional to find work in my field than it was twenty years ago when I had just a little bit of college. Employers just aren't going to hire people who might quit on them for something better.
