It took several days, but the dictator finally fulfilled his promise to speak at the Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Some 50,000 kids and adults attended the event, surely one of the dictator's biggest crowds, albeit a "captive" crowd.

The scouts deserved an appearance, even by somebody who was never elected president, after 300 got sick from the heat and four adult leaders were electrocuted. They needed all the comfort they could get, and at this point, they pretty much had to take what they could get.

The dictator spoke eloquently about the importance of the Boy Scouts in building strength and character, certainly traits in abundance in the regime. After all, President Cheney, Andy Card, and Donald Rumsfeld were all involved in scouting, which should do more to discourage membership than anything else.

Apparently the dictator automatically becomes the honorary president of the Scouts, regardless of his own lack of character and ethics. (Lawrence Jackson, AP)
