As an afterthought, it might be time to reflect on one of the great mysteries of the universe, and that's why in the world does the human body have an appendix. It doesn't seem to serve any kind of purpose. Or maybe it does. It could help the gut fight disease.

But if it has a function, then why is the organ not necessary for one to survive?
