I Got Back,

and there wasn't even thunder and lightning or even a downpour. It would have been nice if it had rained, for the heat got pretty oppressive during the Village People show, thanks to so many people being outside John Ascuaga's Nugget and the Silver Club. It also didn't help there was a cruise going on with literally thousands of vintage cars.

The Village People, as always, were a hoot, and I was closer to the stage this year, but unfortunately I didn't get as clear a view of them this time around than last year at the Hilton. Therefore I didn't bother trying to get any pictures. It appears the people who brought their chairs didn't use their chairs for sitting but stood the whole time. This didn't happen at the Hilton last year.

I hope if the group plays again in Reno for Hot August Nights, which they probably will, they go to the Hilton. There's so much more room for people than in Sparks.

I was also over at the Peppermill and talked a bit with Jon Provost. I was correct; all of the Lassies are from the same bloodline, and the current one is a ninth-generation collie. This is his first time here at Hot August Nights, and he couldn't believe the crowds.

I also listened a bit to what Ken "Eddie Haskell" Osmond, now 62 (and looks basically the same as he did when he was a kid, just 45-plus years older), had to say about his life after Beaver, which was working for 18 years for the L.A.P.D. before retiring. He said he wouldn't do it again, and no wonder, as he was shot three times during his stint. I mostly listened to him. There was no way I was going to ask him about O.J. or any of that shit.

It's a lot of fun to go to these events, and Reno, for its size, always has a LOT going on.
