When People

write about the "worst" disasters, they tend to look only at the death tolls.

Sure San Francisco's earthquake in 1906 and Galveston's hurricane in 1900 were among the worst in U.S. history in loss of life, but neither compare to the effect of Hurricane Katrina, which is as close to Armageddon as we are going to get in this country.

Neither of the other two even remotely compare to this in terms of economic impact.

Now that police and fire personnel have finished with their looting of the city, they have been ordered to stop more looting.

Some people besides the police have decided to take the law into their own hands. Doubtless some decided to foolishly ride out the storm because they were afraid of the looters stealing from them.

This writer mourns the loss of a great city.
