Bush acted like he hasn't a care in the world as he decided to call troops in Iraq to wish them a happy Thanksgiving. They are probably thankful they are still alive performing their thankless tasks. Meanwhile, Bush has a real problem as to whether he can ever bounce back from his Iraq debacle. Once a situation worsens abroad, it's almost impossible for a president or dictator to reverse course.
Public opinion is now against our George's Iraq policy, and it seems extremely unlikely he can ever rebuild the public's trust. It's a good thing for the Republicans they control the voting machines or they'd be shit out of luck.
Regardless of how the public feels about it, it's a virtual certainty that the U.S. will continue its presence in the region instead of immediate withdrawal (Eric Draper, WP)
