While on the Surface
genetic screening for birth defects sounds like a good thing, upon closer examination it is chilling for anybody who supports the rights of the disabled.
Just as the disabled are being mainstreamed more and more into society, we now have the means to prevent them from even coming into existence in the first place.
One might say discrimination against the disabled will be not only desirable, but it will be done long before the disabled are allowed to be born.
It's not that easy an issue to take sides.
