The Problem
with Robert Parry's analysis is that Democratic senators in red states can't pull the Mouthzilla schtick and talk tough and vote so-called "progressive" because their CONSTITUENTS are not like people who post on Democratic Underground, are not loudmouth talk show hosts like Mike Malloy, and are not like most of the major bloggers on the left. They are FAR more conservative than in blue states like California and New York.
If these senators want to be re-elected, they have to have a feel for what people in their states think.
Yammering about the "base" is meaningless when one is talking about more rural, more midwest and southern, parts of the country.
