Well, duh. The Senate Democrats could have filibustered, but the "gang of 14" held them hostage. They could have lost the filibuster for good if they had bottled up these two, and worse yet, even worse candidates could have been confirmed.
It's a bitch being in the political minority, especially when the majority party is largely composed of equally extremist people.
