I honestly don't see how school district superintendents can even do this, when it is likely the teachers' jobs are union-protected.

That's what the part of NCLB of allowing administrators to fire personnel (or, in this case, making them reapply for their jobs) if students don't make AYP is all about--undermining union contracts and decades of litigation which says "tenure" (which simply says teachers have the right to a hearing) is a property right of teachers.

In other words, that part of NCLB is actually not legal at all. I strongly expect there to be a flurry of lawsuits and strikes if this becomes widespread.

Never mind I.Q. tests have nothing to do with predicting achievement; all they are used for, if they are used ethically, is to determine who qualifies for special education services.

Well, Wackenhut and its ilk run private prisons and have private security outfits, so why shouldn't so-called "behavior problem" kids be dealt with separately from public schools and dumped into "discipline schools"?

Autism, after all, is a communication disability.
