Olympic athlete Herman Brix, who later became known as an actor named Bruce Bennett, a subject of a couple of posts on this blog in connection with a discussion of the 1945 film Mildred Pierce (he played Joan Crawford's first husband), has finally died at the impressive age of 100.

He was married for 67 years, until his wife died in 2000.

Brix/Bennett died from complications of a broken hip.

Famed historian Arthur Schlesinger, 89, has died. He died of a heart attack.

Schlesinger also worked in the Kennedy White House.
