What I find laughable about these kinds of articles and books is the belief--peculiar, I think, to the East Coast--that if students can't get into the Ivies and such they are "failures."
Most people in the real world simply don't give a shit.
Never mind the vast majority of college students go to public colleges and universities, schools that are just as good if not better academically.
Academics, of course, is not the reason the Ivies and such are so much in demand; it's the connections that are made in those universities that seem to count.
Elitism is apparent in schemes to make even more people go to college despite the fact relatively few jobs even REQUIRE a college degree.
What we need to do is push for vocational education, instead, beginning in high school.
