Presidential Notes.

While Fred Thompson's non-Hodgkins lymphoma is currently in remission, one must recall Jackie Onassis died of this disease at about the same age Thompson is now.

However, there is this:

`I have friends in politics, some in Congress, some running for president, and others who have successfully dealt with cancer,'' Thompson wrote on a Web site – www.redstate.com -- popular among conservative Republicans. ``I have had no illness from it, or even any symptoms.''

And his office released a statement from Dr. Bruce Cheson, head of hematology at Georgetown University Hospital, that Thompson's variety of lymphoma is so ``slow-growing'' that those afflicted often die ``from natural causes associated with old age.''

Thompson, calling himself ``one of the lucky ones,’’ wrote that: “My life expectancy should not be affected. I am in remission, and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the future -- and with no debilitating side effects.''

Thompson might run, but I would bet his health would be an issue, which it should be.
