A month ago, however, two pioneering heart surgeons gave reason for optimism that not all feuders carry their ire to the grave. Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, 99, and Dr. Denton A. Cooley, 87, former partners who reconciled in Texas after a four-decade schism born of their rivalry, apparently decided the grudge was no longer worth sustaining.
