Knievel, raised by his grandparents in Montana, frequently visited Reno with his brother in their youth. His stepfather, mother, and sisters lived here. His sister, Loretta Young, still lives in Reno.
Young mentioned one of her brother's hobbies was painting and is pictured showing one of his works. He was good.
He will be buried in Butte, Montana.

This is another instance where I was way ahead of the times. I refused to take showers in P.E. in my freshman and sophomore years in high school, and I got downgraded as a result. Thank God kids are less likely than ever to be exposed to this ritual, which borders on child abuse:
No single event forced schools to drop the shower requirement, although there was a legal challenge in Pennsylvania in the early 1990s.
Longtime physical education teachers say the decline began more than a decade ago and may have started when schools cut back on laundering towels to save money. Kids forgot to bring towels, and it spiraled from there to become optional. Nobody complained, and gym teachers found better things to do than monitor the showers.
Good riddance to that crap.
