like shit, so I am not going to write profound thoughts today. I was thinking about Joan Davis, who was undeniably talented, and I came across this video with co-star Eddie Cantor, with whom she supposedly had an extramarital affair at one time:
How sad younger people by large have no appreciation of the talent that's come before them.
While some panned Davis' television series, I Married Joan, as some kind of I Love Lucy ripoff, it was a better show than I had expected it to be. I can't describe her humor, which was similar to Ball's, and yet it wasn't identical at all.
Davis, of course, died at the young age of 53 in 1961. She had heart problems. Worse still, her only child, Beverly Wills, died two years later in a fire. Not only did Wills die, but both of her sons and her grandmother (Joan's mother) died. In other words, Davis' family was completely wiped out in the fire. Davis' ex-husband, Si Wills, died in 1977, I believe.
