Neocon William Kristol

tells jaded Republicans not to worry too much; after all, he expects Clinton will not get the nomination, and they will have the perfect stooge in Obama.

Rigging primaries and caucuses in order to help the Republicans is the Rovian way.

Along the same lines, I agree with this about "Republicans for Obama." They're for Obama, all right:

As I always preface such musings, I must point out that I remain genuinely undecided between Hillary and Obama. Both are very fine public servants who are more deserving of the presidency than any Republican contender, even if you expand the current offering to include all those who contended for their nomination this time 'round. Both have significant strengths and, where policy is concerned, only minor differences and negligible weaknesses. I will wholeheartedly support whichever of the two gets our nomination.

But much has been made of Republican support for Obama, with this being portrayed as demonstrating his ability to reach across party lines and attract support from parts of the political spectrum that do not normally vote Democratic. I view it differently.

I believe that Republicans support Obama not because they want him to become president, but because they feel that they have a better chance to defeat him in the fall. In previous posts I have explained some of the things I think that their character assassination machine will do to him when the actual campaign gets underway, and it presents a very real problem for us.

Polls regarding head-to-head between the probable candidates mean absolutely nothing. The campaign has not yet begun. I keep reading about how the Republicans are having trouble raising money and I just laugh (albeit nervously) because they devote their resources to those venues where unlimited and undocumented spending rules the roost. We are going to get 527ed to death! Never forget, they ALWAYS have more money than we do, because they are the party of the robber baron class.

We can live in denial all we like, but it will not avail us unless we can devise strategies and tactics to counter their sly innuendoes, their character assassination, their false slanders and libels, and their constant fearmongering. This is not going to be an easy task. They will paint every criticism of John McCain as an attack on a war hero and an insult to our troops.

We must fight fire with fire -- every attack on Obama is racial bigotry, every attack on Hillary is male chauvinism, every defense of the status quo is an effort to strike a blow against American liberty and embroil us in endless war. We cannot let anything they say stand without going completely ape and demanding an apology. We have to whine our heads off. That's what they've done, and it's worked.

McCain has this election in the bag.
