Bold Forbes, an outstanding race horse and winner of the Kentucky Derby that year, won the Belmont:
I think Bold Forbes may have been jockey Angel Cordero's favorite horse. He thought Seattle Slew was his best mount, but he had sentimental feelings for this horse. Bold Forbes raced in Puerto Rico, and Cordero was born in Puerto Rico.
Bold Forbes was a grandson of the great sire Bold Ruler, perhaps the greatest thoroughbred sire of all time. His line utterly dominated the classics in the 1970s.
