Rick Porter of Fox Hill Farms, reflects on his horse and the tragedy at Churchill Downs.
Results from the necropsy won't be made public for a couple of weeks. The horse was cremated, but the owner is undecided where her remains will be buried. She could be buried at Churchill Downs or at Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky, where she was foaled and raised.
Porter was so happy she performed so well in the Derby, he didn't notice her cooling down after the wire. By the time he got to where she fell, she had already been euthanized.
Eight Belles was named after the summer home of famed painter N.C. Wyeth. The home in turn was named after a painting by Winslow Homer.
Porter is not happy with the criticisms of his trainer by the idiots from PETA. He would also like to see a commissioner oversee the sport.
