Obituaries.

Famous ABC sportscaster Jim McKay has died of natural causes, it was reported. McKay was a big horse racing fan and had raced thoroughbreds himself. Of course he covered the sport when ABC carried the Triple Crown races from 1974 into the 21st century.

McKay's approach to covering the Triple Crown races was more sentimental than CBS's Jack Whitaker's or NBC's Tom Hammond's approach.

He hosted ABC's Wide World of Sports beginning in 1961, and remained there for over 40 years.

McKay was 86 years old, according to the NYT. His birth surname was McManus.

Mr. McManus said his father, who hosted and commented on Triple Crown races for ABC, might have had only one regret: missing Big Brown’s chance on Saturday to be the first winner of the Triple Crown since 1978.
