It was Mark Penn's fault, it was Bill Clinton's fault, it was everybody's fault in this attempt to cover up what REALLY happened.
Example:
Bill’s response, acting the part of victim, only exacerbated the situation. “They played the race card on me,” he accused the Obama camp in a radio interview: “We now know from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along.” Obama was incredulous. Bill Clinton remained bitter and accusatory for the duration of the campaign.
He wasn't a "victim" and didn't act like a "victim"; he was pointing out what the Chicago Shitbag's campaign was doing, and playing the race card was one of the filthiest techniques his filthy campaign used.
If writers aren't going to tell the truth about the campaign, they shouldn't even write about it.
