"Gold" medals really aren't worth much, for they are almost entirely made of silver with at least 6 grams of gold gilded on.
They are worth only about $220, but of course the value of the gold medal is in the person who receives it. If it's Phelps medal, or a Spitz, or a Weissmuller, or a Thorpe, you can add a few zeroes to that amount.
