World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions

With all of the crap going on in my life, I almost forgot to attend the performance of the "World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions" at Lawlor Events Center. They come to Reno every two years. Two years ago I forgot to bring a camera (I took pictures of them when they were here in 1994, but they aren't as good as these), and I made sure this time I was prepared.

After the show. Note the protective "boots" the horses are wearing in preparation for travel.

This one is of an Andalusian horse, which is very similar to the Lipizzaner.

The announcer talked about the brands on the Austrian-bred Lipizzaners. They have many brands on them denoting their bloodlines and where they were raised.

Another good head shot of one of the stallions.

This horse did an "airs" routine called the capriole where he leapt in the air kicking his feet outward. That shot didn't turn out, however.

If and when I see these horses again, I will get prime seating directly in front of the entrance. Especially when the horses did difficult manoeuvres there would be heads in the way and made the pictures harder to frame.

A picture showing one of the horses doing a routine.

A close-up of the same horse. This horse was bred in Austria. The company which owns these horses are raising a few of them in this country after having imported all of them.

I think this was my favorite horse of all of them. They were all beautiful and would have given the late, great Secretariat a run for his money in the looks department.

This was the end of one of many routines the horses performed.

I like this head shot of two of the Lipizzaner stallions featured in the show.

Announcer Troy Tinker belted out "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the beginning of the program.

I took my mom to see the Lipizzaners for her late birthday in Feb 2009. It was the best show that I've ever been to. I love your pictures.

Thank you so much, Sara. I think of all of the searches leading to this blog, the "World Famous Lipizzaners" is the most popular search. I have had perhaps hundreds of searches leading to this post since I posted the pictures over a year ago. The horses are so great and they take great pictures.

The horses appear in Reno every two years, so they will be back next year.

I bought a horse from them back in late 2001, he is a Bay Arabian Stallion. He toured with them and was featured in his own spotlight performances during the 1990's thru early 2001. His name is Topez.
Would you have happened to have seen him and maybe taken any photos ??? :-)

Thanks,
Heather

P.S. he will be turning 27 in march and is fat, happy & living a wonderful retirement with me !
