The AP's Liz Sidoti saw the debate the way I saw it. The stakes were far higher for Palin and the expectations were lower, and therefore Palin could declare "victory" in the debate.
She was clearly nervous being up there onstage, and yes, there were times when she was shaky on the issues. But that was almost beside the point.
The GOP ticket didn't lose anything tonight.
Both Biden and Palin talked about change.
I always thought the "fact-checking" by the media regarding points made in debates was ludicrous. Candidates will always misspeak or make errors, and yes, sometimes they even lie.
The debate might have been substantive yet undramatic, but at least it wasn't a crashing bore.
Salon's Joan Walsh thinks Palin blew it in the debate and tries to explain how, but she misses the point entirely.
The best part of the debate was when Biden exposed the maverick bullshit regarding McCain.
