O.J. [Updated]

Naturally O.J. Simpson could have accepted a plea deal for less time in jail, but given how arrogant and nutty he is, he rejected it. He thought he could get away with this crime like he did the killings.

More:

Galanter and Bryson said they intend to appeal their clients' convictions. But they postponed plans to file notices of appeal Friday, after Glass asked them attend a Tuesday morning restitution hearing concerning the items stolen from memorabilia peddlers Bruce Fromong and Alfred Beardsley.

The hearing will coincide with sentencings for four former co-defendants in the case who took plea deals and testified against Simpson and Stewart. Michael McClinton, Charles Cashmore, Walter Alexander and Charles Ehrlich each could get probation or prison time. McClinton could get up to 11 years; the others face less.

The problem with the case, as the judge noted, was there was a loaded gun in the room. Somebody could have been killed there or in an adjoining room. The tapes told the story, the entire story. O.J. didn't have a prayer of overcoming it.

The worst is yet to come for the convicted armed robber/kidnapper. No matter which prison he ends up, there is absolutely no guarantee he will be safe there. Even the most secure prisons or sections of prisons can have security breaches once in a while, as Corcoran inmates Charles Manson and Juan Corona found out almost a decade ago.

A summary of yesterday's events is here. Incredibly, there are people, as demonstrated in the comments following this article and on other sites, who still think O.J. didn't commit a double murder back in 1994.

Apparently O.J. had quite a few friends while he was in jail:

While jailed, Simpson has made friends with other inmates and used money in his commissary account to buy them snacks, according to Simpson lawyer Gabriel Grasso.

“O.J. was actually buying stuff for all these other guys who don’t have anybody on the outside,” Grasso said, “candy bars, soup, chocolate, whatever you can buy at the commissary.”

“I think when he does meet people in jail, they’re going to treat him well because he treats them well,” Grasso said.

From the article it appears O.J. will not be headed to Ely State Prison because of the nature of his conviction. He's not under a life sentence. Of course, I'd argue he'd be better off there because he needs all the security he can get. I doubt he would be any more popular in prison than he is outside it.

O.J. tried for the sympathy vote, and it was for naught:
