The Booming Economy

The problem goes far beyond just having more money to spend; there has to be creation of jobs paying enough so people can buy or keep their homes (or enough for rent, for that matter) and buying cars.

A debit card for 2 grand isn't going to cut it.

You're absolutely right: we need job creation.

My suggestion of a Gift Card for each taxpayer, in yesterday's Washington Post op-ed, shouldn't replace the necessary investment in infrastructure and other essential projects. But it should help us reach them.

The 600,000 jobs lost last month are most remarkable in that they represent only one sixth of the the total losses since the start of the recession. We need relief now, while all other plans take root.

The $2,000 gift card isn't meant to be a full solution. It's a tool we can put in the hands of every American, right now, this week.

Thanks so much, Dan, for your comment. I am honored to receive your response.

We have so many problems in this country, and I just hope they're fixable.

Me, too, and I'm hopeful. Americans are the most resourceful people on earth, and the last ones to quit.
