Obama and the Economy

Obama's "reaching across the aisle" idea turned out to be a product of naivete; the Republicans WANT him to fail and are doing their damnedest to to make it happen.

DRASTIC measures are needed to get this country back on track again:

1. Take steps to thwart Republican obstructionism. This might be accomplished by changing the filibuster rule.

2. Strengthen the dollar. When the dollar is weak, it costs more to buy foreign goods and we take in less foreign currency for ours. This, unfortunately, requires raising, rather than lowering, interest rates.

3. Curtail, and indeed reverse, the exodus of American industry and the outsourcing of American jobs. This may require a return to some degree of protectionism.

4. Embark on truly MASSIVE public works, particularly those that are labor-intensive and that would provide long-term benefits. I would suggest a network of dual intercity TGV railbeds and burying wherever possible our electrical and communications wires/fibers from the sources right into everyone's homes.

5. Increase Federal spending on education, with the goal of free public education right through a doctorate.

6. Heavily subsidize public transportation to the point where it is actually free to ride.

7. SOCIALIZED MEDICINE!!!!
