With a shitty job market, naturally Teach for America applications have gone up.
Actually I think this is a good idea. I am not even opposed to taking advantage of the program myself, assuming I am not too old and opportunities in other lines of work aren't available.
There is nothing whatsoever wrong with this.
However, the Wall Street Journal's ultraright editorial page trashes teachers' unions and "tenure" without knowing shit about either one. Teachers' unions don't support individual teachers at all, and "tenure" is a joke, for teachers can be thrown out far easier in public schools than "at will" workers in private industry.

You can definitely still apply to be a Teach For America teacher. In doing so, you would be part of the movement to close the achievement gap.
