This fire, believed to have been caused by fireworks, burned yesterday, and today, as I was cycling along the Greenway to go to Ashland, Oregon, and back to Central Point, I discovered the burned property was once owned by my mom and dad and where I grew up:

Plumes of black smoke periodically billowed into the ash-filled sky as the fire hop-scotched across the interstate. Holiday weekend traffic came to a halt as both northbound and southbound lanes were closed as the fast-moving fire swept a wall of flames across I-5 around 4 p.m. after the fire burned trees along the Bear Creek Greenway and flaming ash crossed onto the freeway's east side, Bierwiler said.

"We had a spot fire burning a quarter-mile ahead of us," said Bierwiler. "When it jumped the freeway, it burned five or six acres. But we had three engines on that side so it didn't get away from us."

It burned 25 acres total.
