A ruling is expected next week regarding the D.C. union's bid to roll back mass teacher layoffs proposed by the school district's dictator Michelle A. Rhee. It is widely believed she is using the layoffs as an excuse for age discrimination against older employees while replacing them with younger ones.
The post I mentioned yesterday from the same site said the average age of a teacher being laid off in D.C. is 48, while the average age of the new hires is 32.
Yep, I'd say it's a trifle questionable.
After all, the younger ones are cheaper and more malleable. They probably won't have teaching "careers" lasting more than 2 or 3 years anyway.
