The Reno Firefighters’ Community Assistance Program has paid a $680 veterinary bill for a dachshund named Tango firefighters rescued Thursday from a burning apartment in the Fairway Park Manor Apartment complex at 1280 Berrum Place.

“While funds raised by Reno firefighters for CAP are usually used to pay for basic needs for individuals or families impacted by fire and other emergencies throughout the year, this kind of financial support for a family experiencing the trauma of a fire can be just as critical, especially since pets are usually considered a part of the family,” CAP Chairman Dale Kiriaze said in a statement.

Not the youngest mother on record--that dubious honor goes to Lina Medina of Peru, who gave birth when she was just five years old--but this case is still outrageous enough:

A 9-year-old girl has reportedly given birth to a healthy baby boy in northeast China. MX reported that the boy was delivered via cesarean on January 27 and weighed just a hair over 6lbs. (2.75kg).

The baby was delivered at Changchun hospital in the Jilin province. Nursing staff have refused to comment on the case, but despite the mother's young age and the potential for severe complications, both mother and baby are reported to be doing fine.

The parents are seeking legal help.
