The Education Wars: KCMO School Closings

Kansas City (MO) Superintendent and Eli Broad Academy "graduate" John Covington says he would "like" to close 28 schools in order to "right size" the district, using business lingo, of course:

The list includes 19 elementary schools, four middle schools, two high schools, three alternative schools and two high schools.

Some of the schools on the list include Westport High School, ACE Sixth Grade Center, Kansas City Middle School of the Arts, Lincoln College Prep Middle School and Westport Middle School.

After all the public feedback, Covington sent his final recommendation to members of the Board of Education on Monday afternoon. The board will have a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the district’s offices, 1211 McGee St., to discuss the plan.
