Ph.D. = Piled Higher and Deeper.
That's an old saying related by one of my professors at the University of Nevada, Reno, though not exactly in that language, describing the long, arduous process of getting a doctorate in any field in some hope there will be some kind of academic or research pot of gold at the end of it.
I once thought of getting a doctorate, but now I will be lucky if I even survive the winter, and, at almost 56, getting any further education longterm would be a waste of time and money.
But even if you're far younger, there are no guarantees the "investment" in education will pay off.
I don't regret all of the education I got, but now I am in such bad shape financially I can't reflect on its value.
