At bottom, the Egypt protests, along with others around the world, are a direct result of policies which have created a huge gap between the tiny numbers of rich and everybody else.
It is slowly coming to this country, and if the feds actually try and screw over public employees in various states by allowing states to file for bankruptcy, all hell will fucking break loose.
Just piss off police and fire department employees, and see how long the country lasts. Watch the protests spread to the military, and you can kiss this current government goodbye and good riddance.
THAT is what it will take for Americans to wake the hell up and find out they have been conned into supporting 30 years' worth of neoliberal policies which have all but destroyed their standard of living.
