Case in point is public education, of course, but that hasn't stopped the privatizers from trying to do it.
NCLB, for example, was specifically designed to dismantle public education by putting in an idiotic requirement all students must be "proficient" (meaning being at grade level) by 2014. As this is impossible because of second-language learners, special education students, and just plain variation among the general population, this was a setup for failure. ALL public schools will be eventually shut down.
Why? Because they are public, that's why, and that's unacceptable to the neoliberals.
