Bad To Worse

As bad as Washoe County School District was under Paul Dugan, Heath Morrison is an absolute disaster.

There will be more layers of bureaucracy in hiring teachers, and the model is based on privatized outfits like TFA and New Teacher Project.

Human Resources staff Courtney Folgner, Adriana Publico, and David Gamble presented WCSD’s new teacher hiring process at the American Association of School Personnel Administrator’s national conference in Reno. The new selection process for teachers is designed to place the highest quality teachers in our classrooms. It is based on best practices derived from the interview process of the Teach for America and The New Teacher Project models. Candidates are screened and hired for attitude in addition to the content knowledge, pedagogy, skills and experience they bring to the job. They participate in a half-day interview that includes a lesson plan presentation, group activity, writing prompt focusing on core values, and a one-on-one interview.

The interview process is conducted by principals, assistant principals and Human Resources staffers. District selection criteria includes demonstration of teaching abilities, student engagement, and WCSD core beliefs such as passion for teaching, being an advocate for all students, not giving up on kids, and relationship building. The presentation was very well received and gave WCSD national exposure to school district personnel from all over the country.

They've hired more idiots in personnel to handle this absolute nonsense, thus costing more and more money to taxpayers. What the hell is this idiot Morrison talking about when it comes to "attitude"? That is absolutely insulting to professionals. They aren't McDonald's workers who have to work with the public.

Of course, demonstrations to adults isn't the goddamned same as relating to kids, not to mention HR people have no fucking background in education to even make a judgment call like this.

Besides, the nepotisms will always get the jobs anyway. At least elementary jobs that are non-special ed or ESL.
