This and other articles in the series are a little bit too much PR for WCSD and its principals, but it does give a good account of how severe the problem is.
One grandstanding principal NEVER should have been given a forum.
I think it is great that schools are reaching out to homeless students and others in need, but I think the RGJ needs to pick a better school than this one for writing an article. The principal profiled in this piece was recently named in a civil action filed by a teacher, and the allegations, which are no doubt true, are simply outrageous but par for the course for so many principals in this and other school districts. Yet, as we have seen from this article, she is still allowed to have a job. The case is still ongoing, by the way:

This is not a smear--this is a matter of public record. The district and principal could be cleared of course, but considering the antics pulled in this matter, I think the teacher will likely be reinstated (if she hasn't been already) albeit to a different school. The allegations leveled at the teacher by the principal (testing violations) are too bogus to be believable.
By the way, I wouldn't brag about student uniforms, either. The district apparently has been violating state statutes which do NOT give principals authority to impose uniforms--only school boards are allowed the authority. There is nothing in the district policies which discusses uniforms. The district is being sued over the uniform issue as I write this:

The plaintiffs are pro se, but unfortunately for the school district, the plaintiff is an attorney and her case is extremely well crafted and thought out. You read this and you find parents are treated just as poorly by school district administrators as teachers.
The US Courts website requires registration, but the first ten dollars is free per court rules. Interesting site.
