Duncan and Rhee have much in common. First, they're both unqualified to hold any position in education. Duncan has a BA in Sociology and as a basketball "expert" helped to dis-mantle public education in Chicago by firing teachers and closing schools. Rhee supposedly taught in Baltimore for three years with unparalleled results. Yet her teaching methods and strategies have never been published or replicated. That led to her becoming a superintendent without her having been an Assistant Principal, Principal or other school administrator. Second, they both are dependent on Bill Gates for money and they will parrot whatever the unelected Minister of Education tells them to say or do. All three want to privatize public education, make teaching a transient career, get rid of tenure, seniority, pensions and turn schools into test-prep factories. Of course, Gates' "facilitators" (not teachers) would be hired from Microsoft, Apple, Pearson and all the other corporations ripping off public funds. Lastly, they both say that it's always "for the children." These self-serving opportunists have tried to mask their true intentions but now the general public is getting a glimpse as to how they operate.
It's sad that the neo-liberals, led by Obama, have joined forces with the right wing in a concerted effort to vilify teachers and destroy the most egalitarian institution in our society- the public schools. It's no wonder that these two phonies shared the saw table.
