Longtime (and former) Nevada state senator Bill Raggio, 85, of a respiratory illness while in Australia with his wife:

Raggio, the longest-serving senator in state history, was 85, and died Thursday at 10 p.m. Pacific time of a respiratory illness while on vacation in Sydney, Australia. His wife, Dale, was at his side.

“With the death of Sen. Bill Raggio, one of the great lights in the world of Nevada politics has gone out,” said Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval.

The education building at the University of Nevada, Reno, was named after him.

Bob Green, ex-husband of singer Anita Bryant, 80. He had been on dialysis for a kidney ailment.

Green was probably the "brains" behind Bryant's outspoken opposition to gay rights back in the 1970s, but it all backfired in the end. Bryant's career was damaged, and the two eventually divorced. Bryant remarried, but Green didn't.

Green began his career as a disc jockey and then managed Bryant's career.
