The Truth

Another post over at Teachers.net explaining how bad teaching is in Florida (and everywhere else):

Yes. Teaching, as a career/profession/calling, whatever you tag it, is disastrous. Not just in FL, but in most other states (I speak from experience - I've taught in OH, AZ, and NV along with FL). In the states where education is actually halfway decent, it is virtually impossible to get a job. I have been teaching for 8 years and constantly ask myself what the hell I was thinking. I LOVE teaching. I do. I love working with students (who want to learn)
and helping new teachers and everything that goes along with being an educator, but the state of public education in this country is SO ridiculously flawed that it is one of the worst professions to go into. Not only would I not recommend teaching in Florida, I would advise against going into the career entirely. Find something else to do that makes your heart sing - because you might think teaching will...but it won't for very long. I am going on maternity leave in a few months and am already making plans to get myself the heck out of the classroom and into some other aspect of education (not administration, because that thought makes me want to vomit) that doesn't have to put up with lousy pay, lousy 'clients', lousy bosses, and everyone and their uncle playing 'armchair quarterback' claiming they know how you should do your job and they could do it better than you, even though they've never taught a day in their
lives. Seriously, stay away from teaching - there are other GREAT ways to help/work with kids.

That person is lucky enough to be young enough to be able to go into a different line of work. Yours truly cannot because of financial destitution and age. It would be insane for me to retrain for something else when I don't even have the wherewithal to find a stable job where I could do so. It's out of the question unless or until I can secure work, preferably education-related and not part-time shit with no benefits.
