Know-nothings like Bill Gates seek to undercut state and local standards and require all students throughout the country to go through a coookie-cutter curriculum, aka "common core standards," which sounds good on paper by has absolutely nothing to do with the realities of teaching and learning.
These "reformers" keep yapping about other countries, but these countries are also smaller and far less diverse than students in this country.
The last thing we need in this country is a national curriculum put forward by a bunch of clueless idiots.
The fact these "standards" involve only language arts and math should tell you where this kind of garbage is headed. Most workers will have only rudimentary math and reading ability, while the rich will have a well-rounded curriculum with science, social studies, and the arts in addition to language arts and math. After all, we have to "compete" with the Chinese and workers from the third world, and they sure as hell don't need to know any of the "frills."
