Proof there is no economic recovery in this country is the continuing discrimination against people who are long-term unemployed. Employers are still using "must be currently or recently employed" as a weeding technique. It sure as hell doesn't make sense.
But let's face it, many if not most long-term unemployed are also older workers. It's thinly disguised age discrimination. If you get sacked in your fifties, even long before you can AFFORD to retire, you are basically kicked out of the full-time workforce forever. That is what has happened to me. Not fun when there is no spouse, no nothing, to cushion the blow.
