Something's Screwy in South Dakota

The fact the Crazy Horse Memorial could have been completed years ago makes one wonder what in the hell is wrong with the family. The sculptor who began the project in 1948, Korczak Ziolkowski, turned down all government offers to help with getting it completed. Yet here this project has dragged on for decades, and with only a face and hints of an arm to show for it. What the hell is going on?

Not to mention the Native American community hasn't been 100-percent behind the destruction of the mountain.
Mount Rushmore was completed in 14 years and for less than $1 million. But here, a half-century of blasting passed before the first visible details of the face emerged. The joke for much of that period was that the only thing crazy about the Crazy Horse Memorial was the sculptor. Standing in a biting winter wind beneath the enormous face — the nose alone is 27 feet long — Casimir Ziolkowski described the mountain carving process as not conducive to shortcuts. He started shoveling blasted rock for his father at age 7, and five decades later he is the foreman of the operation, which consumes about a quarter of the foundation’s $7 million annual budget. He acknowledged occasional doubts about the sanity of the enterprise, but added: “Us Ziolkowskis will continue to work as long as we can.”
Casimir meant "we" instead of "us," but to nitpick at grammar usage would obscure the point that constructing this site shouldn't take as long as the Egyptians took in creating the pyramids. At least the Egyptians had the excuse of not having modern equipment. There is NO excuse for the Crazy Horse Memorial not having been completed years ago.
