My post from the article about early buyouts for teachers at WCSD:
"Early buyouts" are not-so-subtle forms of age discrimination. These new retirees better have enough money to do it or have a spouse, because they will NEVER be able to work in the labor force full-time again. As somebody who was illegally forced out of WCSD years before I could afford to retire and barely qualifying for vesting, I know what it is like in this lousy economy and being destitute. These people don't really have a choice because school districts will FORCE them out if they don't "voluntarily" retire. The new "reforms" targeting teachers and their "performance" are designed to weed out "expensive" older teachers to make way for cheap bimbos right out of college and ultimately TFAs who are totally unqualified to teach. The kids could be lucky and get veteran transfers, but most likely their new teachers will be inexperienced and will never have the skills necessary to make teaching a career. They will be one-year-only hires and never be able to vest in retirement. Some progress. Education is no longer about the kids.
