Dumbest Idea Ever But Par for the Course for WCSD

Now one of the area high schools will have "uniforms" despite the ridiculous cost of having to purchase TWO sets of clothes and the fact that forcing kids to wear uniforms in public schools is a violation of freedom of expression.

Dress codes can be instituted for reasons of distraction or safety or cleanliness/hygiene, but this is just stupidity writ large.

I hope Mary Frudden wins her lawsuit.

Reed High School will become the first Washoe County High School to implement a uniform policy, according to Reed principal Mary Vesco and school district public information officer Victoria Campbell.

The uniform policy is set to go into effect for the 2012-13 school year.

“I see Reed High School and our school community as trendsetters in the school district,” Vesco wrote in a letter to parents. “I imagine that over the next few years other local high schools will be checking with us when considering following through with a similar dress code.”

Sixteen of 62 Washoe County elementary schools have uniform policies. Nine of 14 middle schools have uniform policies.

Sparks Middle School was the first middle school to apply a uniform policy in 2008.
